Yesterday I had the opportunity to learn fabric dying from Mark Sherman. A few weeks ago, my friends talked me into signing up for this class. I didn't really know if it was something I wanted to do because I kinda felt it wasn't really my thing. But I fell to the peer pressure (I'm so weak) and signed up. And I'm really glad I did.
This spiral design reminds me of the inside of a nautilus shell.
And it's probably favorite of the four.
This one reminds me of the photos you sometimes
see of deep space...which I think is pretty cool.
I'm not sure how I feel about this one. Its cool but it's missing something.
I think it might be a good candidate for overdying...redying a second time using one color.
And finally, we were each allowed to dye a t-shirt brought from home. I'm not a huge
fan of orange and yellow but I'm diggin' this t-shirt and might actually wear it.
All in all it was a fun class and I really like the results.
What am I going to do with the fabric? I don't know but I do know this.
Me and grandkids are going to be doing some t-shirt dying during Christmas break.
And my friends and I have already decided we want to do more!

I was like you and I also buckled under peer pressure. Well actually my Friend paid my way.
Anyhow it was a dyeing class and we were going to dye silk scarfs. All I could think of it was how messy it would be, my hands were going to turn black, my clothes would be ruined. The whole time I was thinking that, they I touched the silk scarf with a tiny bit of dye with an eye dropper and I was immediately mesmerized. I ended up having lots of fun and I have a beautiful scarf to wear, assuming fall hits my town.
One of the things our teacher told us was we could reverse dye with bleach. Make a solution of watered down bleach in a spray bottle. Lay your fabric in the sun. She used leaves and she then spray misted around each leaf. Don't move it till you are sure it's dry.
I think they're all cool!! I took a dyeing class one day in a guild workshop and really liked it but nothing since and never used what I dyed. We just did smaller pieces so would probably have to be a focus piece. Yours look much larger. Love em!

Very cool! When my kids were in elem school, we would dye every summer~ before I knew it we had the whole neighborhood in our front yard dying shirts, socks, undies, LOL Fun times!
