...Free Form Ice Dyeing.
I don't know what anyone else would call it but that's what I am going to.
The other day I want to try my hand at dyeing something that didn't require tyeing. So with a scrap piece of fabric that was approximately 22" x 91", I started twisting and scrunching till I could fit it on my dyeing rack. I then put ice on top of the Monicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10630536302714072900noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-765801538608280633.post-52043207963948841992015-07-15T09:43:00.000-04:002015-07-15T09:43:07.448-04:00Tropical Paradise

My husband's response upon seeing this piece was simply "Gorgeous"! I'm not sure if I've ever gotten a "gorgeous" out of him. Don't get me wrong. He loves everything I create. He's my husband and biggest supporter. But I consider it high praise to get a "gorgeous" out of him.

This is my second inclined ice dye using the same colors as the first.
I love how completely different they both look. You can repeat all the steps
exactly the same each time and never the get the same results.
Here area a couple close up shots.

Wow...what a small change can impact dyeing results.
Below is a picture of one of two pieces I did yesterday. It came out as I had anticipated.
As the ice melted it dripped the color the way I'm used to seeing.
You will notice each color has stay mostly pure and blends only where it came in contact
with the color next to it. Here are a couple close up shots Monicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10630536302714072900noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-765801538608280633.post-81775904014812200972015-07-05T19:44:00.001-04:002015-07-05T19:44:55.402-04:00What do you see?

Believe it or not, I've always had a love for jewel tones.
They have a calm, soothing effect that just makes me happy.
I had a bunch of fabric folded and ready to dye with no specific plan for them.
So I decide to take the opportunity to do some experimenting.
I applied dye to the ice very randomly, not thinking about what was Monicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10630536302714072900noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-765801538608280633.post-20227987806891256272015-06-30T12:13:00.003-04:002015-06-30T12:13:44.640-04:00Curiosities by Jeni Baker for Art Gallery Fabrics

I love the color variety in this fabric line. So often collections are limited

I'm dyeing again! From the first time I dyed with Mark Sherman, I knew I wanted
to LOTS more dyeing. But then life got in the way and I forgot about dyeing.
I had the supplies but not the inclination.
But few weeks back I saw a blog post by Tim Latimer, hand quilter extraordinaire,
that got me charged and wanting to dye again.
I had the opportunity to Monicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10630536302714072900noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-765801538608280633.post-55475842773375794122015-05-31T15:24:00.002-04:002015-05-31T15:24:27.732-04:00Spring Quilt Market 2015

I could sit around and design quilts all day long. Lately it seems I haven't had the time or felt the inclination to design. I guess that's just how it goes though. You just can't force creativity.
But finally...the other day I found sitting around itching to do something creative. And after a few minutes I came up with this idea.
The Monicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10630536302714072900noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-765801538608280633.post-60207367550118206332015-05-11T13:11:00.000-04:002015-05-11T15:52:23.782-04:00Like a bad penny......I always turn up.
I can't believe I have blogged since September...sigh. For a while I could have said I had a good reason why I wasn't but that excuse doesn't work seven months later. I've made several attempts at writing a post but its been hard coming back after so long.
But anyway...what have I been up to? Well...I'm back in Texas for one. But that's only until the end Monicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10630536302714072900noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-765801538608280633.post-1833804247734034712014-09-19T10:35:00.002-04:002014-09-19T10:35:23.890-04:00Laughs courteosy of my goofy son...

...on the flowering snowballs quilt!
As of last night I have 29 blocks done and enough cut to make 42. I'm using templates for a 10" finished block. I really like the way they're laid out right now, creating a light and dark pattern. This one block has soooooo many design possibilities that it has me wanting to make more than one of these quilts. I caved...and started a flowering snowball quilt.
Not being one for joining quilt-alongs, I usually find it easy to not join in. I prefer to march to the beat of my own drum most of the time. But I just couldn't resist this one.
Here are the fabrics I'll be using...blues, aquas, and teals...color that remind me of the ocean.

I've been busy relaxing and enjoying the warm sunny (and humid) weather of south Florida. Little to no quilting has been going on.
But I did manage to make a small quilt sample last night for a paper piecing class I'll be teaching next week to some guild members. It is called Rays of Hope and the pattern is by Monicahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10630536302714072900noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-765801538608280633.post-37492470072408650722014-06-10T10:48:00.002-04:002014-08-25T18:46:01.387-04:00Seashell Hunting
Summer in Florida is the pits. Anyone who has ever been here in the summertime knows how warm and humid it can get. It keeps me indoors most of the summer because there's nothing worse than feeling hot and sticky...and that's just from stepping out the door and standing still.
But I love to walk the beach. I'm sure you've already seen tons of photos of this year's Spring Market
on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. But I'd like to share with you
the fabrics and quilt designs that really spoke to me.

Good day Quilters!
Welcome to my stop on the Inspired by Fabric Star Sampler Blog Hop sponsored by
Fabri-Quilt. When contacted by Lisa and asked if I would
like to participate, I jumped at the chance.
Here's the star I selected! It has a very traditional
look but is pieced together in a much simpler way.
So let's get started!

Several years ago Bonnie Hunter has blogged about buying a hexagon paper punch she had found in a craft store and how fabulous it was. Right then and there I knew I wanted one. I know I've been absent for almost a month but it's been for a good reason. I've been finishing up entries for our local quilt show which occurred this past weekend.
